The Root

During the nineteenth century, almost all the Chinese living in the United States were immigrants from Guangdong province, which consisted of fifteen counties. Among these, the four most populated four counties (the Siyi 四邑) included Xinning (known later as Taishan), Kaiping, Enping, and Xinhui (Chang, 2019, p. 14).

Green is a dominant color in Guangdong province. It is the color of bamboo, leaves, growing rice, vegetables, root crops, palms, fans, furniture, hats, food from the ocean and freshwater ponds, and so on (Chang, 2019, p. 14).
